Property in Costa Tropical

Living in Costa Tropical

Life here is slower and more Spanish than on the central Costa del Sol. A unique microclimate allows mangoes and avocados to grow, the sea is clear and the Sierra Nevada ski resort is little more than an hour away. Granada city is around 50 minutes inland.

Who buys here

Buyers who have visited the Costa del Sol and want something quieter, nature-oriented and less built-up: Northern European retirees, remote workers, and Spanish buyers from Granada and Madrid. Diving and sailing enthusiasts favour La Herradura.

Property types

Sea-view villas on the hillsides, apartments in Almuñécar and Salobreña, traditional village houses and country properties among the plantations, plus a limited but growing number of new developments.

Transport & connections

Málaga Airport is about 1 hour 15 minutes by the A-7 motorway; Granada Airport is around 1 hour. The area is well connected by motorway but a car is essential.

How Costa Tropical differs from nearby areas

Compared with the Costa del Sol, the Costa Tropical offers lower prices, a greener landscape, less mass tourism and a stronger connection with Spanish life — at the cost of fewer international services.

Permanent living, holiday home or investment?

Ideal for permanent living and holiday homes for buyers who value tranquillity; investment potential exists but rental demand is more seasonal than on the Costa del Sol.
